We ask that you plan your accommodations early

After a fortuitous meeting at the ICAA's Arthur Ross Awards, we quickly bonded over a shared love of travel, design, architecture, art, and gardens (often convening in hours exploring the streets of new cities). Over the course of many, many Amtrak rides between New York and DC, then a shared home in Washington, and eventually a proposal in Marrakech, we have been lucky to create a joyful life together—and couldn't be more excited to celebrate that with our friends and family in one of our favorite places in the world.

TRINITY CHURCH, UPPERVILLE

Ceremony

With a history dating back to 1842, Trinity Church, Upperville now occupies its third structure, the result of a 1950s project underwritten by Paul and Rachel “Bunny” Mellon. The Mellons enlisted architect H. Page Cross to create a Gothic structure reminiscent of 12th and 13th-century Norman churches in limestone and native sandstone. Besides the stained glass windows by Joep Nicolas of the Netherlands and certain complex carvings, nearly all of the church’s architectural detailing was done by local craftsmen on site in the manner of medieval craft. Trinity’s church bells are dedicated to those artisans.

OAK SPRING GARDEN FOUNDATION

Reception

Oak Spring Garden Foundation is the current iteration of Little Oak Spring and Rokeby Stables, and one-time residence and horse farm of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon. The Mellons established Oak Spring shortly after their marriage in 1948, when they enlisted H. Page Cross to conceive a rambling country house modeled after a French village and situated around a sprawling formal garden. Over the next several decades, Bunny expanded her vision with the addition of greenhouses, garden sheds, outbuildings (including a studio and private airport), and, eventually, a private library, which now houses her extensive archive. Following her death in 2014, the home became the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Bunny’s passions of horticultural and landscape design, preservation, and study.
